What is ADHD?

ADHD is a complex set of differences in the brain, related to structure and chemistry which create an environment where individuals perceive the world Differently.

ADHD impacts both children and adults and affects how the brain functions, particularly in areas related to attention, impulse control, and hyperactivity.

People with ADHD often have difficulty paying attention for sustained periods of time, especially on things that are of little interest to them, difficulty staying organized with belongings, time and spaces, & difficulty with controlling impulses while speaking or acting.  This can affect their daily life, school, work performance as well as relationships.

There are 3 main types of ADHD:

Predominately Inattentive Presentation: Those with this type of ADHD  may have trouble focusing, being easily distracted, frequently forgetting things, or appear lost in their thoughts or a dreamy like tendency which means they may have difficulty following instructions or completing tasks.

Predominately Hyperactive-Impulsive Presentation Those with this type of ADHD are more impulsive and hyperactive meaning they may be constantly on the move, having trouble sitting still, fidgeting frequently, find it challenging to wait their turn.  They may blurt out answers without thinking, interrupt others and have difficulty taking time to evaluate their impulses to do or say something.

Combined Presentation: this type of ADHD combines traits of both inattention and hyperactive & impulsive resulting in them experiencing struggles with attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity simultaneously.
